Living Fearlessly

You Can Only Ever Live, Work, Or Love Right Now

We can only ever live in the now. We know the power of now. But it doesn’t stop us from getting lost in the past or the future, does it?

When we’re calm, we hear our wisdom telling us we can only ever do what we can do in the moment. Everything only ever happens right now.

The problems begin when we get caught up in fearful thinking. We imagine all kinds of disasters happening in the future. Or we rewind to the past and beat ourselves up about what we did or what we think we should have done.

Sound familiar? It’s not very productive at all but still we do it. ‘The Power of Now,’ Eckhart Tolle’s, spirituality classic, doesn’t just point to a good idea. It points to absolute truth. Unless you’re a time traveller, it’s impossible to live in the past or the future. Only your thoughts have the power to create the illusion of you being there.

And I’ve discovered there’s no benefit to living in the past, because you miss the now. Before you know it, the now becomes the past, and you’re busy regretting that too. It’s a waste of mental bandwidth.

When we’re fully in the present, we allow space for the beauty of the moment. It’s an inspiring way to live and we can consciously choose to live this way. When we truly see through our own insight that we only ever have now, everything else falls away.

There’s no point looking back unless you have memories you want to cherish. Otherwise feel free to let it all go.

And there’s no point looking forward unless your vision inspires you to take the next step towards your unlived future. If thinking has the opposite effect – it paralyses you, then stop it.

You don’t have to think about the future. You don’t have to plan everything out because plans only point you in a direction. They’re not set in stone even if you wish they were.

From one moment to the next we never know what’s going to happen. We can either let this terrify us because we see we were never in control anyway, or we can enjoy a wonderful feeling of mental freedom in not knowing.

Anything could happen and isn’t that the true joy of being alive?

This is the creative potential of the universe which we all have access to, all of the time.

We’re not limited by our past and we’re not constrained by our imaginary future unless we think we are. We can think our way into pain or we can choose not to.

Living Fearlessly is that simple when we let it be.
