The psychology of high achievers and their self-worth

TRANSCRIPT: THE HIGH ACHIEVER’S MIND TRICK

Hi, this is Rachel Henke, transformative coach and author of “The Living Fearlessly Guide to Stress-Free Productivity.”

This is the next video in the Stress-Free Productivity Video Series.

Today I’d like to talk to you about the high-achiever’s mind trick. This is something that I got lost in for many years, and I’ve noticed it in my high-achieving clients too.

It’s this misunderstanding that our self-worth comes from what we achieve. And it’s a rabbit hole, because if we think that our self-worth is dependent on what we achieve, then when things are going well, everything’s wonderful, but of course when they’re not going so well, which tends to happen in real life, we don’t always get what we want and we don’t always achieve what we want, right, even if we’re very ambitious and go-getting.

So consequently what happens is we then suffer, we suffer a lot, a great deal, because we’re constantly thinking about our self and our self-worth.

Now the truth is that our self is not a solid thing. It isn’t something that is always the same. Our self shifts constantly because it’s only, we only ever see ourselves through our own thoughts, which constantly change, makes sense, right?

So when we think unworthy thoughts, we feel unworthy and when we think worthy thoughts, we feel worthy. It’s that simple. We don’t need to suffer and spin.

I wanted to point you to that mind trick, so that next time you feel yourself getting lost in all of that thinking about your self-worth, you know what’s going on. If you’d like to learn more about how this works, download the free Living Fearlessly kit below.

Thanks for watching.
